Copyright is a critical tool for safeguarding your creative work and ensuring you maintain control over how it is used. In this workshop, participants will learn the essentials of copyright law, including what it protects, how it applies to various artistic disciplines, and how to assert their rights.
Topics will include:
Understanding the difference between copyright, patents, and trademarks.
Moral rights and how they impact public artwork.
Licensing agreements: who pays whom and for what.
Practical tools to manage copyright effectively.
What is copyright, and why is it important?
Understanding what copyright protects and what it doesn’t.
How long copyright lasts and what happens when it expires.

André Gallant is Atlantic Canada's Intellectual Property (IP) Advisor with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). In addition to working in IP law, André has also worked as a tax lawyer for more than 10 years. He is also a published author, frequent speaker and an amateur piano composer.
